Joliet man arrested in court after weapons and drug raid for violating release conditions

Joliet, Illinois – A Joliet man was arrested after police discovered a modified handgun and drugs during a traffic stop on Waverly Place. Donnell Brown, 20, was taken into custody without incident after officers found a firearm, cannabis, cocaine and prescription drugs. The vehicle was stopped on September 14, 2024 for a suspended registration.

According to Joliet police, Brown was a passenger while Dakota Morris, 23, was driving. Officers spotted a handgun on the ground near Brown's feet. Upon further investigation, they found the weapon was equipped with an automatic switch.

Brown was recently arrested at the same location on September 4, 2024 for possession of a similar weapon. At the time of the most recent arrest, Brown was on pretrial release for the previous offense.

Morris was cited for driving the vehicle while its registration was revoked and was released at the scene. Brown now faces additional charges including possession of a weapon, possession of narcotics and violating his release conditions. He was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Center.
