Alex Edelman wins his first Emmy for the screenplay for a Variety special and remembers his colleague Adam Brace in an emotional acceptance speech

Alex Edelman won at the 2024 Emmys for Alex Edelman: Just for us in the category “Outstanding Screenplay for a Variety Special”.

This was Edelman's first win in the competition with Netflix Jacqueline Novak: Get on your kneesHBOMax John Early: Now more than everNetflix Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man and the Pool, and ABCs The Oscars.

“Thank you so much for this. This is, oh God, I'm going to cry in front of Carol Burnett, fantastic,” Edelman said as he took the stage to accept his award. “I did this with my great collaborator Adam Brace, who passed away just before we were on Broadway, and this huge group of people rushed in to fill that void.”

Edelman thanked the people who helped with his special, including his crew, producers and HBO, who made it possible for us to make a special that we really wanted to make.”

“This is really, really nice,” he continued. “I really miss Adam, but it was the end of a seven-year journey with the show, but I got to do something really fun with my friends.”
