Henderson police investigate fatal shooting on Maple Street, suspect charged with murder

Henderson police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in the 1100 block of Maple Street.

At around 1:40 a.m., officers arrived at the scene and found 40-year-old Romids A. Miles suffering from a gunshot wound.

They also found 38-year-old Sylvester Deon Burton with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Miles was taken to a medical facility where he later died. Burton was also taken to a nearby facility and is expected to recover.

The investigation revealed that there had previously been an argument between Miles and 33-year-old Darius Donzell Harris, which presumably led to the shooting.

At around 4:20 a.m., officers learned that Harris was being treated at Granville Medical for injuries related to the incident.

After his release from the hospital, Harris was charged with Miles' murder by the Henderson Police Department.

He was then taken to the Justice of the Peace Office, where he was denied bail and remanded to the Vance County Detention Center pending his next court date.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925.
