Elizabeth Debicki wins Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama

Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki is officially an Emmy winner.

The 34-year-old actress received the statue for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama at the 2024 Emmys for her role as Princess Diana in the Netflix series The CrownThe victory marks the first time an Australian actress has won in this category.

“I didn't write anything down because I'm very superstitious and I'm really in a tight spot now, so I'll do it quickly,” Debicki joked as she accepted her award on Sunday evening.

“Peter [Morgan]thank you,” she continued, mentioning the name of the show's creator. “Thank you for doing this show. Thank you for trusting me with this.”

Debicki appeared speechless and thanked the cast and crew of the show before talking about her experience playing Princess Diana. “Playing this role based on this incomparable, incredible human being has been a great honor,” she said. “It was a gift.”

Debicki played Diana from the show's fifth season and also in the sixth and final season. The final season covered the years 1997 to 2005, including Princess Diana's relationship with Dodi Fayed and the 1997 car crash that killed both of them.

The 76th Emmy Awards will be co-hosted by father and son Eugene and Dan Levy and will air live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles from 5:00-8:00 p.m. PT/8:00-11:00 p.m. ET. See all the red carpet arrivals.
