Second arrest of Joliet man first arrested in Operation Streetsweeper

Donnell Brown (20, Joliet) was arrested, processed and taken to Will County Adult Detention Center for unlawful possession of a weapon (machine gun), armed violence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis and violation of pretrial release.

On September 14, 2024 at 2:48 p.m. Joliet Police Officers led a Traffic control on a Ford Fusion in the 1300 block of Waverly Place for a suspended registration. The driver was identified as Dakota Morris (23, Joliet) and Brown was identified as a passenger in the vehicle. During the traffic stop, officers noticed a handgun on the ground next to Brown's feet in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Officers removed Brown from the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. During the search of Brown, officers seized suspected cannabis, cocaine and prescription drugs.

Officers found the loaded pistol in the vehicle and determined that the pistol appeared to be equipped with a switch that allowed the weapon to fire automatically. Brown was also arrested on September 4, 2024. at the same location and was found in possession of a pistol modified with an automatic switch as part of “Operation Street Sweeper.” Morris was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and released at the scene of the accident.
