2 former FDNY chiefs arrested by federal authorities: sources

Two retired New York City Fire Department fire chiefs were arrested by the government early Monday on charges of accepting more than $190,000 in bribes to speed up safety inspections and reviews, officials said.

Anthony Saccavino and Brian Cordasco, who worked in the New York Fire Department's Bureau of Fire Prevention, were arrested as part of a long-running corruption investigation into bribery, corruption and false statements, according to the Southern District of New York (SDNY).

They are accused of accepting bribes between 2021 and 2023, the criminal complaint states.

The arrests came after the homes of the two former police chiefs were searched by the FBI and city investigators in February.

SDNY officials will hold a press conference on the arrests later Monday morning.
