Report: Dolphins sign experienced quarterback despite Tua Tagovailoa's injury

The Miami Dolphins have been considering what to do at the quarterback position since starter Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concussion in their game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. It is not yet known how long Tagovailoa will be out, so Miami has decided to bring in reinforcements.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Miami is signing veteran quarterback Snoop Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad. Huntley will likely be in a quarterback competition with Skylar Thompson in the future.

Huntley returned to the Ravens this season after being released by the Cleveland Browns. The former Pro Bowl playmaker will now get his chance to shine in Miami while the team awaits further news on Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa is scheduled to meet with neurologists in the coming week, but he reportedly has no plans to end his career. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter provided the latest on his injury status on Sunday.

“There is currently no timetable, [for his return]said Schefter. “Tua Tagovailoa will be looking for that this week when he begins meeting with neurologists to get more information about his condition and what the best course of action is for him. He's 26 years old, and when he went through this last time, he had no desire to stop. From what I understand, he still wants to keep playing and has no plans to stop. That will help him in his meetings with the neurologists, who will give him more information that will help him make an informed decision.”

Miami had stated that they had no plans to sign any more quarterbacks and would move on with Thompson, but the addition of Huntley adds excitement to the team for the rest of the year or however long Tagovailoa is out.

Huntley has been a solid backup to Lamar Jackson for Baltimore when Jackson suffered a number of injuries over the past few years. He has started nine times for the Ravens over the past four seasons and has thrown for 1,957 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. Huntley also ran for 509 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Huntley could thrive in a friendly offense like the Dolphins, especially with their well-staffed wide receivers. In Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, he would have two top-notch offensive weapons who could also throw the ball, making his life easier.

He needs to win the quarterback position, but it appears Miami has a plan without Tagovailoa. This signing could mean the Dolphins are counting on Tagovailoa not returning this season.
