Driver hospitalized after accident with Peoria fire truck

PEORIA (25News Now) – A driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Monday following a crash involving a Peoria fire truck.

According to Peoria Fire Department Chief Shawn Sollberger, Engine 3 was struck by a motorist who ran a red light. Peoria police said the fire department responded to a 911 call around 9:50 a.m. when Engine 3 was struck by a car at the intersection of South Western Avenue and West Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The driver was freed from the vehicle by the fire department and taken to a hospital.

The accident is currently being investigated. According to Sollberger, no one else was injured.
