Tishomingo man arrested after police-involved shooting

TISHOMINGO COUNTY, Mississippi (WCBI) – Tishomingo County officials have released information regarding a police chase and shooting involving an officer.

John William Griffin was charged with fleeing from a felon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and five counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.

Officials said the incident occurred on August 28 near County Road 957 when a vehicle sped through a security checkpoint at a high rate of speed.

During a chase, officers said Griffin fired at them and drove into Colbert County, Alabama.

There was a shootout involving a police officer and the pursuit ended.

Griffin was taken to a hospital in Huntsville and was not released until September 9.

A day later he was returned to Tishomingo County.

Griffin's bail was set at just over $1,000,000.
