Man arrested for drunk driving after hit-and-run in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Lincoln police arrested a man following a hit-and-run crash and another incident at the Burlington Northern Railyard early Monday morning.

At 1:04 a.m., officers responded to a hit-and-run crash near NW 55th and West St. Paul. A woman reported hearing a loud noise and, after checking her Ring camera, saw a silver truck hit two parked cars before fleeing south on NW 55th Street.

At 1:13 a.m., officers were called to the rail yard at 801 West “O” Street, where a silver truck had driven onto the tracks and come to a stop, blocking a track and causing a delay in train service.

Officers found a damaged 2017 Ford F250 with two tires missing from its rims. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Zachary Scully. Railroad workers reported that the tracks were also damaged.

Scully, who was showing signs of impairment, failed a breath test with a blood alcohol content of .137, police said. He was arrested for drunken driving and resisting arrest. In addition, he was charged with several misdemeanors, including hit and run, driving while license suspended, obstructing a police officer, marijuana possession and reckless driving.

The hit-and-run accident caused significant damage to two vehicles: a Ford Escape (model year 2024) was totally destroyed and an Infiniti G35 (model year 2024) sustained damage of $6,000.
