TV presenter Connie Chung's memoirs are out this week

Connie Chung, a New Jersey Hall of Fame member, television journalist and longtime Middletown resident, will release “Connie: A Memoir” on Tuesday.

Chung, after whom a rest stop on the Garden State Parkway is named, has forged a historic path marked by numerous television news firsts.

New York Times bestselling author Walter Isaacson called the book “delightful” and said it was “full of colorful stories of rivalry and triumph. But it also tackles a larger theme: how the line between serious reporting and tabloid journalism is blurred.”

In 1993, Chung became the first woman and the first Asian American to co-anchor a major American evening news program.

The memoir, which Isaacson described as sharp and witty, is intended to offer an in-depth look at her journey through a male-dominated professional field.

Chung graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in journalism in 1969. That same year, the daughter of Chinese immigrants started her first job at a local television station at the age of 23.
