Suspects accused of crime in Windsor Locks arrested in Hartford

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT – A chase that began early Monday morning with a report of armed suspects tampering with a vehicle in Windsor Locks ended with a foot chase in Hartford that resulted in two people being arrested; two others remain at large.

At approximately 2:16 a.m., Windsor Locks police were notified of several individuals tampering with a motor vehicle on Grove Street. A caller reported that the suspects were armed with a rifle and that one suspect pointed the gun at the caller during the confrontation, police said.

The suspects fled in a gray Mini Cooper and were spotted by a Windsor Locks patrol officer, who unsuccessfully attempted to stop the car on Interstate 91 and eventually called off the pursuit. Police notified neighboring law enforcement agencies, including the Connecticut State Police.

Shortly afterward, the Mini Cooper was stopped in Hartford by state police, who attempted to corral the vehicle. After the car crashed into a state police patrol car, the occupants fled on foot, leading to a chase that ended with the use of a Taser, police said.

The driver was identified as Johquan Repton Angol, 28, of Hartford. He was charged with driving under the influence, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, police pursuit, obstructing an officer, reckless driving, three counts of throwing objects from a motor vehicle and several traffic violations. He was held on $100,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Hartford Superior Court.

A passenger in the car, Cristalee Melendez, 25, of Hartford, was charged with obstructing an officer. She was released on $5,000 no-bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 11.

Two other suspects who evaded arrest are still at large, according to police.

State police are working with Windsor Locks authorities on pending charges stemming from incidents in that city.
