Fight for climate justice targets meat and dairy companies

In recent years, state governments, local governments, climate change groups and citizens from around the world have filed lawsuits against fossil fuel companies for their contribution to the climate crisis. Increasingly, these lawsuits are also targeting the agricultural sector, which is responsible for about 12 to 20 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

In a new video, Daina Bray, senior litigation fellow and project manager in Yale Law School's Law, Ethics, and Animals program, explains how litigation against meat and dairy companies could impact methane emissions—a powerful greenhouse gas that traps far more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide—and the fight for climate justice.

Climate litigation can be a useful tool to raise awareness, change government policy and hold the largest corporations accountable,” she said.
