12-year-old from Texas charged with bomb threats against schools in Decatur and Miller County

DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) – A 12-year-old from Texas is accused of making bomb threats against schools in Decatur and Miller counties last week, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

There is no indication that the 12-year-old had recently traveled to Georgia, nor is there any indication that there was ever a real security threat to either of the two schools involved, the GBI press release states.

The 12-year-old is facing charges after a bomb threat was made at both Miller County Middle School and Spring Creek Charter Academy in Decatur County last week.

Miller County schools were closed Wednesday after an unknown person sent a message to one of the Miller County school system's Facebook accounts reporting a bomb threat on campus, the school district said. GBI bomb technicians cleared the school without finding anything of concern, the GBI news release said.

More news from South Georgia:

A day after Miller County Schools received a bomb threat, Spring Creek Charter Academy was also closed for the rest of the day after the school's principal received an email that morning claiming there would be a bomb on campus. The school was evacuated without anything disturbing being found, according to the GBI statement.

After tracking the messages and conducting several interviews, the GBI concluded that the 12-year-old had made both threats from Texas.

The 12-year-old is being prosecuted by the state of Texas for the threats, according to the GBI. Additional local charges could be filed if the investigation identifies additional people who aided or conspired in making the threats, the GBI said.
