Niles man killed in car crash in Cass County

A Niles man died Sunday after a crash in Cass County. The Cass County Sheriff's Department tells us more:

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that his deputies were called by the Cass County Sheriff's Office to a fatal traffic accident at the intersection of M-60 and Dailey Rd. in Cass County's Jefferson Township. This accident occurred on 09/15/2024 at approximately 10:20 a.m.

The initial investigation into the accident revealed that Kennedi Webster (19 years old, of Hamilton, Ohio) was the driver of a vehicle traveling southbound on Dailey Road that failed to stop at a stop sign on M-60. Michael York (53 years old, of Niles, Michigan) was the driver of a vehicle traveling northeast on M-60 that was struck by Webster's vehicle. Kennedi Webster was pronounced dead at the scene. Michael York and his three passengers, Steven Roberts (40 years old, of Niles, Michigan), Harry Kiste (67 years old, of Elkhart, Indiana), and Tony Jernigan (44 years old, of Niles, Michigan) were transported by ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

It is currently unknown whether the seat belt was used. Alcohol and drugs are unlikely to have played a role in this accident.
