Battlefield boss says next game will ditch specialists and return to the present because 3 and 4 were the “peak of Battlefield”

EA has been talking about the next Battlefield game for some time now, and while there's no proper reveal yet, the developers have now revealed the game's first concept art and confirmed that it's returning to a modern setting.

“If you look back at the peak or the heyday of Battlefield, it's the Battlefield 3 era… Battlefield 4, where everything was modern,” Respawn and Battlefield head Vince Zampella tells IGN when revealing the new concept art. “And I think we need to go back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we'll see where it goes from there. But I think for me, the peak of Battlefield is in the Battlefield 3 and 4 days. So I think it's nostalgic for the players, for me, even for the teams. That's kind of the heyday… although I would also say 1942.”
