Deebo Samuel is out due to a calf strain

49ers receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a calf strain in Sunday's loss to the Vikings.

Coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Samuel would be out.a few weeks.”

“He told me he thinks he did it when he [a pass for a 2-yard gain]; I think it was about the third to last game [on offense]” Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “They had a blitz in the red zone. He caught the hot route and broke in. He says he thinks he did it on that play. But I think there were only two or three plays after that play.”

It's another blow to the 49ers, who placed running back Christian McCaffrey on the injured list last week because of a calf strain and Achilles tendinitis. McCaffrey won't return until Oct. 10 at the earliest. Rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall, the team's first-round pick, will miss at least two more games due to the non-football injured list after being shot during an attempted robbery on Aug. 31.

“When you lose really good players, it's always tough, but that happens all over the league and it's a big part of this league and this game,” Shanahan said. “You just have to deal with it.”

Samuel caught eight passes for 110 yards against the Vikings and five for 54 yards in the season opener against the Jets.
