Des Moines man arrested and charged in fatal Sunday shooting

A Des Moines man was arrested and charged Monday for allegedly killing a man who police say intervened in a fight.

Des Moines police and firefighters responded to a single-vehicle crash into a retaining wall at 5:29 a.m. Sunday. Emergency crews found a 24-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, whose identity police have not publicly released.

A preliminary investigation showed the injured man was attempting to drive away from the scene of the accident when he crashed, Parizek said. Paramedics took him to a local hospital, where he died.
