Active police investigation into fatal incident in Waikapū underway: Maui Now

Maui Police are currently conducting an active investigation into a fatal incident that occurred overnight that resulted in the closure of Honoapiʻilani Highway in Waikapū for five hours.

According to text alerts from the Maui Police Department, the highway was closed in both directions between Maui Tropical Plantation and Pilikana Place between 12:27 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024.

The original closure was attributed to a car accident. Police could not confirm the cause of the accident or the identities of those involved, but told Maui Now that further information has not yet been released.
