Nathan Harville is accused of assaulting a correctional officer

LIMESTONE CO., Alabama (WAFF) – A Limestone County Sheriff's Office correctional officer was attacked by an inmate Saturday, officials report.

According to officials, Nathan Harville attacked the correctional officer during a routine cell block check.

Harville reportedly pushed the officer into an open cell and began punching him in the face. He then attempted to gain control of the officer's radio, took the microphone cord from him and attempted to choke him.

The officer was able to call for help via radio and other officers responded and took the prisoner to safety.

The officer was treated in the emergency room of Athens Limestone Hospital for a cut to his face that required ten stitches, as well as additional cuts to his head and arm.

According to officials, Harville has been in the Limestone County Jail for 670 days awaiting trial on charges of trafficking in controlled substances.

While in custody, he was charged with nine additional crimes, including seven serious violent crimes, including escape, assault and possession of contraband weapons.
