Mount Vernon, NY man charged with knife murder

Mount Vernon officials announced Monday that a suspect in a fatal stabbing attack in early August a month ago was taken into custody in Virginia and arraigned last week in Westchester County District Court.

Ronald Hechavarria, 34, of Mount Vernon pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of second-degree premeditated murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the killing of 37-year-old Michael Clay.

Clay, also of Mount Vernon, was stabbed multiple times outside the home at 204 Union Avenue late August 1 and taken in a car to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No further details were given about the cause of the stabbing.
