Accused Portland nurse killer charged with first-degree murder

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) – The man accused of killing nurse Melissa Jubane was formally charged with murder Monday afternoon at the Washington County Courthouse.

Bryce Schubert, 27, pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree desecration of a corpse.

Schubert was originally charged with first-degree murder, but a grand jury decided to upgrade the charge to premeditated murder.

The man accused of killing a local nurse appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday.

Neighbors said Schubert lived across the street from 32-year-old Jubane in their Beaverton apartment complex.

Police said that after Jubane was reported missing on September 4, they searched for her for days before finding her remains and arresting Schubert late on the evening of September 6.

Schubert must appear in court again on October 15.
