Incident at Adams County campsite leads to multiple charges against North Carolina woman

In Adams County, a 23-year-old North Carolina woman, Lauren Michelle Welch, was charged with multiple misdemeanors after her boyfriend was seriously injured at a campground early in the morning. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. Sunday at the Round Top Campground.

According to police reports, Welch is accused of hitting her boyfriend with a Hyundai as he was parked in the driveway of the campground. After driving away, she allegedly ordered him to get in the car. Officers who arrived at the scene found the victim unable to stand and suffering significant injuries. He told authorities he was attempting to leave the campground when he was hit.

Due to the severity of the victim's injuries, emergency transport via air to a local hospital was required. Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim was walking away from Welch when she struck him and that he was heard yelling to “call the police” shortly after the strike.

After the incident, Welch left the scene but was later found by police at another campground. When officers found her, they found that she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Welch was arrested and now faces charges including aggravated assault with a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, and two counts of driving while under the influence of drugs.
