Birmingham Airport evacuated while police investigate incident

Hundreds of holidaymakers were evacuated from Birmingham Airport while police investigated an incident.

Travellers were temporarily asked to leave a small area in the arrivals zone and gather outside shortly after 4pm (BST) on Sunday.

Numerous passengers shared videos and photos of the paralyzed baggage area on social media, while others reported that they were “stuck on the plane.”

West Midlands Police confirmed that the force had been informed of the incident and had subsequently carried out precautionary checks.

National Express bus routes X1, X12 and 97A were diverted “as the entrance at Birmingham Airport was inaccessible”.

An airport spokesman confirmed that they were aware of the incident and asked people in the airport to follow police instructions.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., staff began allowing travelers back onto the premises and the incident was reported by the airport as over.
