Dodgers vs. Marlins Preview, Playoff Preview, Pitching Duels & TV

The Dodgers end their penultimate road trip of the 2024 season with a trip to Miami to face one of the only two teams that have used more pitchers than them this season.

With Miguel Rojas' appearance on the mound on Saturday in Atlanta, the Dodgers have used 38 different pitchers this season, just one shy of the club record set in 2021 and matched in 2023. The Marlins, on the other hand, have used an incredible 44 different pitchers this year, two more than any other team in major league history.

The Marlins have the second-worst record in MLB this season at 55-95 and are headed for the fourth 100-loss season in franchise history. But Miami's ineptitude has gone unnoticed while the White Sox are on pace to break the modern record of 120 losses set by the 1962 Mets.

Miami is just 28-47 at loanDepot Park this season, last winning at home in July, and has lost 14 of its last 20 games in Miami.

The Dodgers defeated the Marlins May 6-8 at Dodger Stadium, a series that was started on the mound by Walker Buehler, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Gavin Stone. None of those three will start in this series, although Stone will throw before one of the games to test his shoulder while on the injured list because of inflammation.

Bobby Miller starts Tuesday night's opener in Miami after allowing 13 runs in his last two starts. “It's tough. I'm going through this right now, to say the least,” Miller said after his start last Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Landon Knack and Jack Flaherty will start the final two games against the Marlins, looking to rebound from their two- and three-inning starts in Atlanta, respectively. They will become just the seventh and eighth Dodger pitchers this season to start after four days of rest.

Old friend Michael Petersen is in the Marlins' bullpen after being claimed off waivers by the Dodgers last Tuesday. When Petersen pitched Friday, he became the 70th different player the Marlins used this season, breaking the Cubs' 2021 major league record for most players used in a season.
