Two people suffer burns in butane tanker accident in eastern Kentucky

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – Two people were hospitalized with burns Monday following an accident involving a butane tanker, the Boyd County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident was reported early Monday evening in the Paul Coffey Industrial Park, near Virginia Boulevard in the Cannonsburg area.

The sheriff's office said two victims were injured and taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, with burns.

They say one of the person's injuries was serious.

Investigators believe the fire started in a butane tanker without a tractor attached.

Deputies said crews were working on the butane tanker when it caught fire.

According to a social media post from the Cannonsburg Fire Department, the incident was reported around 5:30 p.m. Emergency personnel from the Cannonsburg, Summit-Ironville, England Hill, East Fork, Norton Branch, Ashland and Westwood fire departments responded to the scene. Other agencies responding to the scene included the Boyd County Sheriff's Office and the Ashland-Boyd County-Catlettsburg Emergency Management Agency.

According to firefighters, the incident occurred when butane was being unloaded from the trailer.
