Bryan Kohberger remanded to Ada County jail after murder trial postponed

Bryan Kohberger, accused of quadruple murder, was taken to the Ada County Jail Sunday morning, according to jail records.

Kohberger was transferred from Latah County after his case was reassigned to Judge Steven Hippler in Ada County by a September 12 ruling.

The case was reassigned after Judge John Judge granted the defense's request to move his trial out of Latah County.

The trial of Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell took place in Ada County after their cases were moved from Fremont County.

Kohberger is accused of brutally murdering Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Kaylee Goncalves in their rental home near the University of Idaho. Six weeks after they were stabbed to death, Kohberger was arrested at his parents' home in Pennsylvania. His trial is currently scheduled for June 2025.

Authorities told Scripps News Boise that Kohberger would be housed alone for safety reasons for inmates and staff at the facility.

Kohberger's stay is described as “temporary” because he is being held pending trial and ACSO has not made the arrest or filed charges. Captain Ryan Jensen issued the following statement:

“There were several factors that went into planning and preparing for Bryan Kohberger's transfer to the Ada County Jail. First and foremost, we wanted to do it in the safest and most efficient manner possible. Thanks to a wonderful partnership with the Idaho State Police, we were able to utilize their aircraft because it simply made the most sense given the distance and complications that might have arisen with ground transportation.”
