On Oct. 26, WCI officers found 31-year-old Cody Bartimus of Newark unconscious in his cell during a range check, prosecutors said. He was taken to Atrium Medical Center and pronounced dead.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office concluded that Bartimus died of strangulation.

Investigators with the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded and spoke with Lang.

“Lang told investigators he took a towel from the clothesline and wrapped it around Bartimus' head with the intention of 'ripping his head off,'” prosecutors said.

He was reportedly lying on top of Bartimus and pressing his knee on his back.

“Lang stated that he choked Bartimus for several minutes, but was unsure of exactly how long,” prosecutors added. “He admitted that he could tell Bartimus was dead because he 'had done this before.'”

Lang was previously convicted of the 2013 murder of 52-year-old Bradley Allen Grosscup in Knox County.

Grosscup's body was found in his burned-out apartment. Investigators concluded that Grosscup had let Lang and his girlfriend move in with him because they were homeless. An autopsy found that Grosscup died of strangulation, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
