Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is said to have been arrested in Manhattan

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested Monday in Manhattan, New York, his lawyer said.

The charges underlying his arrest were not immediately clear – but according to an anonymous source cited by the New York Times, they are based on a grand jury indictment against Combs.

Scripps News has not yet independently confirmed the reporting.

“We are disappointed in the U.S. Attorney's decision to pursue what we believe is an unjustified prosecution of Mr. Combs,” Combs' attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said in a statement to NBC News. “Mr. Combs has cooperated fully with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve judgment until you know all of the facts.”

In March, federal authorities raided Combs' properties in Los Angeles and Miami as part of a sex trafficking investigation. Combs has also been a defendant in sex abuse lawsuits in recent months. He has denied all allegations in those lawsuits.

One of the most high-profile lawsuits came from R&B singer Casandra Ventura, known as Cassie. She sued Combs in federal court for rape and repeated physical and sexual abuse over the years.

The lawsuit alleges that “Mr. Combs exercised complete control over Ms. Ventura's personal and professional life since she was 19 years old, leaving her unable to escape his grasp.” The lawsuit accuses her of numerous instances of physical and sexual violence.

The lawsuit alleged that Ventura was a victim of sex trafficking due to the numerous sexual encounters she was forced into across the country.

The lawsuit was settled just one day after it was filed.
