2 unrelated accidents 7 minutes apart in Palm Coast – both fatal | Observer Local News

Updated: 19:32

On Monday, September 16, at 4:10 p.m., a motorist was killed in an accident near the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway and Old Kings Road in Palm Coast. Just seven minutes later, at 4:17 p.m., in an unrelated incident, a young boy or man on a bicycle was involved in an accident with a dump truck. The youth was pronounced dead at the scene at the intersection of Belle Terre Parkway and Pine Grove Drive, according to the Palm Coast Fire Department.

In both incidents, bystanders performed CPR before emergency personnel arrived and took over, spokesman Patrick Juliano said.

The driver on Old Kings Road was taken to AdventHealth where he or she was pronounced dead. Three vehicles were involved and according to the Florida Highway Patrol's X-Report, it is possible that a “medical issue” was the cause. No further information has been released.

In the case of the cyclist, “unfortunately the injuries were so severe that his death was pronounced at the scene of the accident,” said Juliano.

While Juliano was unsure of the teen's age, first-hand reports on social media suggest the cyclist may have been a child.

The Pine Grove crash occurred as the city plans to improve safety at the intersection with Belle Terre. A $4.5 million grant will allow the city to add a right-turn lane onto Belle Terre and close the median, making it impossible to turn left out of Pine Grove and head south onto Belle Terre.

“We've had significant accidents at this intersection,” Palm Coast Chief of Staff Jason DeLorenzo said Sept. 13 on WNZF's “Free For All Friday.”

This is a developing story. More details to follow.
