Colorado Rockies Game 151: Merrill Kelly vs. Antonio Senzatela

With just 12 games left in the regular season, the Colorado Rockies face tough competition. With a record of 57-93, the Rockies need to go 6-6 to avoid 100 losses for the second year in a row. Tonight, they begin a three-game series against the playoff-contending Arizona Diamondbacks and will be looking to spoil the game before their final road trip of the season.

For the first time since May 2023, right-handed contact specialist Antonio Senzatela will be on the mound. Senzatela returned from his ACL tear last May that ended his 2022 season and had to undergo Tommy John surgery last year after making just two starts and 7 23 innings. Expect Senzatela to make 70 tough throws tonight. For those who forgot, Senzatela relies primarily on making contact, although he will look to increase his strikeout rates. He throws a four-seam fastball that tops out at around 97 MPH, with a slider being his preferred secondary pitch. He can also throw an effective changeup and curveball.

Right-hander Merrill Kelly will start the field for the Diamondbacks and hopes to finish the season strong after spending much of the year on the injured list. Kelly has made just 10 starts this season with a 4.26 ERA over 57 total innings. He faced the Rockies in April and held them to just two earned runs on six hits and three walks in his second-to-last game before going on the injured list. Historically, Kelly has stunned Rockies batters with a 3.64 ERA over 14 career starts.
