Tom Brady does not return from retirement after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion and joins the Dolphins

Tom Brady will not end his retirement to join the Miami Dolphins.

That's according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who reported on the next steps for Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins' starting quarterback who suffered a severe concussion in his team's loss to the Bills on Thursday night.

On Sunday NFL Countdown, Schefter said Tagovailoa has no plans to retire and will have an appointment with neurologists this week to assess his condition.

Schefter then noted that the Dolphins plan to start Skylar Thompson next Sunday against the Seahawks before ruling out a return for Brady.

“I know a lot of people have suggested bringing Tom Brady out of retirement – that's not going to happen,” Schefter said.

The Dolphins wanted to sign Brady earlier, but were fined and forced to give up fewer draft picks in 2022 for “improper communication” about the quarterback's hiring with head coach Sean Payton in Miami.

Brady last played for the Buccaneers in the 2022 season and is currently the lead NFL color commentator on Fox alongside live commentator Kevin Burkhardt.

Brady is also trying to acquire a minority stake in the Raiders, but he would not be able to do so if he returns to the field.

Thompson started two regular-season games and one playoff matchup for the Dolphins in 2022 after Tagovailoa suffered multiple concussions.

On Monday, the Dolphins signed former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley from the Browns' practice squad as an additional player while they await news on if and when Tagovailoa can return this season.
