Two people have been hospitalized following a highway crash in El Paso County that is believed to have involved a school bus

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – Two people were hospitalized after a pickup truck and a car collided east of Colorado Springs Monday night.

According to a Colorado State Patrol spokesperson, a Ford van and a Volkswagen Passat were traveling westbound on Highway 94 in the same lane when the van attempted to turn but failed to brake in time and struck the van. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road, with the Volkswagen hitting a utility pole.

Both occupants of the Volkswagen were injured in the accident and taken to hospital. The passenger suffered serious injuries, while the driver's injuries were classified as moderate.

According to the State Patrol, two passengers in the van suffered minor injuries, but were treated at the scene. No one in the vehicle itself was injured.

The 11 News team at the scene said the van was bearing a Vanguard Coursers logo. The State Patrol could not confirm if the van belonged to a school, but told 11 News there were “a bunch” of kids on board. We've reached out to the school district and will update this article when we receive a response.

Highway 94 was closed for nearly three hours and did not reopen until 9:30 p.m.
