Mother of teenager arrested after attacking three men in Milwaukee alley

A video of teenagers attacking three men in an alley near the corner of 1st and National sparked outrage and calls for accountability last week. Police arrested four teenage boys. The mother of one of the 14-year-old boys accused of taking part in the brutal Sept. 11 attacks spoke to WISN 12 News reporter Kendall Keys and apologized for her son's actions. His case is still in juvenile court, so 12 News is not naming him or his mother. She said she got a call last Wednesday that her son, a freshman at Bradley Tech High School, had been arrested in connection with the attack. Part of the attack was caught on video, and the teen's mother said it hurt her feelings. “The video I got was horrific,” she said. Felipe Martinez told 12 News that his 63-year-old father, Freddie Vega, his 62-year-old uncle, Jesse Andino Sr., and their 53-year-old co-worker were confronted by a group of teenagers fighting in the alley next to the building Martinez owns. According to Martinez, the three men tried to get the teens to stop the fight and move away from their vehicles. Vega was taken to the hospital with broken bones and stitches, but has since been released. The other two men's injuries were treated at the scene. The fight happened near a McDonald's about two blocks from Bradley Tech. “I told him it was wrong. You know, whatever you did, it was wrong. You should have never been involved in this. He should leave school and get right on the bus and go home. I don't even know how and why he ended up at McDonald's,” the teen's mother said. The woman said her son is under court-ordered electronic monitoring. “Why was he on the ankle bracelet?” Keys asked. “Well, about a year ago he got his hands on a friend's gun, shot himself in the leg, wouldn't say who it was, and they put an armband on him. So yes,” she said. “He shot himself in the leg?” Keys asked. “Mm-hmm. Yes,” she said. The teen now faces charges of physical abuse of an elderly person. “You can't blame the parents, because we're parents. We raise our children. We pray that they go out and embrace what we've instilled in them. Nobody here raises their children to shoot, kill, steal or attack old people. Nobody does that,” she said. Keys asked if she had a message for the victims. “You know, like I told him in court, I apologize. I'm really sorry,” she said. Police arrested two 14-year-old boys and two 15-year-old boys and continue to search for additional suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360. You can also leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips. Following the attack, the families of Vega and Andino set up a GoFundMe campaign.

A video of teenagers attacking three men in an alley near the corner of 1st and National sparked outrage and calls for accountability last week. Police arrested four teenagers.

The mother of one of the 14-year-old boys accused of taking part in the brutal September 11 attacks spoke to WISN 12 News reporter Kendall Keys and apologized for her son's actions.

His case is still in juvenile court, so 12 News is not releasing his name or that of his mother.

She said she got a call last Wednesday that her son, a freshman at Bradley Tech High School, had been arrested in connection with the attack. Part of the attack was captured on video, and the teen's mother said it hurt her feelings.

“The video I received was horrific,” she said.

Felipe Martinez told 12 News that his 63-year-old father, Freddie Vega, his 62-year-old uncle, Jesse Andino Sr., and their 53-year-old co-worker were attacked by a group of teenagers who were fighting in the alley next to the building Martinez owns.

According to Martinez, the three men tried to get the teens to stop the fight and move away from their vehicles.

Vega was taken to hospital with broken bones and stitches, but has since been released. The injuries of the other two men were treated on site.

The fight occurred near a McDonald's, about two blocks from Bradley Tech.

“I told him that was wrong. Whatever you did, it was wrong. You should never have been involved in something like that. He should have left school and gotten straight on the bus and gone home. I don't even know how or why he ended up at McDonald's,” the teen's mother said.

The woman said her son was under court-ordered electronic supervision.

“Why was he in the ankle bracelet?” asked Keys.

“Well, about a year ago, he got hold of a friend's gun, shot himself in the leg, wouldn't say who did it, and they put an ankle bracelet on him. So yeah,” she said.

“He shot himself in the leg?” asked Keys.

“Mm-hmm. Yes,” she said.

The teenager is now accused of physically abusing an elderly person.

“You can't blame the parents because we are parents. We raise our children. We pray that they go out and accept what we have given them. Nobody here raises their children to shoot, kill, steal or attack old people. Nobody does that,” she said.

Keys asked if she had a message for the victims.

“You know, as I told him in court, I apologize. I'm really sorry,” she said.

Police arrested two 14-year-old and two 15-year-old boys and are continuing to search for other suspects.
