Former Broncos assistant coach boosts Saints offense

It's hard when a player leaves your team and finds success elsewhere. The same can happen with coaches.

While the Denver Broncos offense is struggling to move the ball and score points, the New Orleans Saints are on a roll. In two weeks, the Saints have scored 91 points, an average of 45.5 points per game. The Broncos have scored 26 points in two weeks, an average of 13 points per game.

New Orleans' offense is led by offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, the son of former Broncos coach Gary Kubiak. The younger Kubiak has “completely overhauled” the Saints' offense. Also on the New Orleans staff are former Denver offensive coaches Rick Dennison and Clancy Barone.

Kubiak, 37, was the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 after holding that title and also serving as quarterback coach for the Broncos in 2022. He was an offensive assistant in Denver from 2016 to 2018 before playing for the Minnesota Vikings for three years.

Klint was initially hired as a backup for Gary's team with the Broncos in 2016 and later followed his father to Minnesota. When Denver re-hired Klint in 2022 as part of Nathaniel Hackett's team, there was no nepotism involved.

Sean Payton arrived in 2023, clearing out almost all of Hackett's staff, including Kubiak. Payton came to the Broncos with a reputation as an offensive genius, but he hasn't been able to get Denver's offense going. Kubiak, on the other hand, is off to a great start with the Saints.
