Live Updates: Sean “Diddy” Combs arrested in Manhattan

One of the key events that led to Sean “Diddy” Comb's downfall was a surveillance video – released exclusively by CNN in May – showing him physically attacking and kicking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel in March 2016.

In the video, Ventura leaves a hotel room and walks toward a bank of elevators. Combs, holding a towel around his waist, runs after her down the hallway. He grabs her by the back of the neck and throws her to the ground. While still holding onto his towel with one hand, he turns around and kicks her, the video shows.

As Ventura lies on the ground, Combs picks up a purse and suitcase from the floor near the elevators. He turns around and kicks Ventura again as she lies motionless on the ground. According to the video, about four seconds pass between the two kicks. He then briefly drags Ventura into a room by her sweatshirt before walking away.

Ventura is then seen slowly getting up. She picks up items from the floor and reaches for a phone on the wall in the hallway next to the elevators. Combs returns, still wearing a towel and socks. A mirror directly across from the security camera shows Combs appearing to push Ventura.

Seconds later, he sits down on a chair, grabs an object from the table and throws it with force towards Ventura.

The explosive video contradicted Combs' previous comments in which he denied any wrongdoing. In November 2023, Ventura sued Diddy, accusing him of rape and years of abuse. A lawyer for Combs said he “vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations.” A settlement was reached a day after the lawsuit was filed.

In response to CNN's surveillance video, Combs posted an Instagram video apologizing and admitting wrongdoing.

“I was disgusted when I did it. I still am today,” he added. “I sought professional help. I went to therapy, rehab. I had to ask God for his grace and mercy. I'm so sorry. But I'm committed to being a better person every day. I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm truly sorry.”
