Fugitive teenager sought in connection with Staten Island shooting


STATEN ISLAND, NY — Authorities are searching for a teenager involved in a shooting that occurred in the 120th Precinct on Wednesday. Police say the incident happened around 5:03 p.m. near the intersection of Jersey Street and Winter Avenue.

A 17-year-old man named Nelson Vanleuvan reportedly fired a firearm multiple times before fleeing the scene on foot toward Benziger Avenue. No injuries were reported in connection with the shooting, officials said.

The NYPD is currently actively searching for Vanleuvan, who is wanted in connection with the endangerment incident. Investigators have not released a possible motive or provided any further details about the events leading up to the shooting.

The incident remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the 120th Precinct.

    Another water main break affected westbound US 40 near Doughty Road in Pleasantville. The right lane and shoulder were closed, causing delays of 5 to 10 minutes. Drivers were urged to use caution, especially during the morning rush hour.

    Popular travel routes had varying travel times. For example, the trip from Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 117, Sandy Hook, took about 8 minutes using the local lanes, while the trip from Raritan to Exit 98, Belmar, took 26 minutes using the express lanes. For those heading to Exit 63, Long Beach Island, travel times were about 58 to 59 minutes using the local or express lanes.

    For longer trips, such as from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 38, Atlantic City, travel time on the express and local lanes was approximately 1 hour and 22 minutes. Those heading further south to Wildwood (Exit 4) had to expect a travel time of 1 hour and 55 minutes.

    HeNJDOT continues to monitor traffic flow and provide real-time updates through the 511NJ system. Motorists are urged to be alert for additional incidents or changes in road conditions.

    BROOKLYN, NY — An off-duty New York Police Department sergeant was arrested Monday night at the 69th Precinct, officials said. The arrest occurred at 8:47 p.m., authorities said.

    The officer, identified as 43-year-old Carrku Gbain, is charged with first-degree criminal contempt. The details of the incident that led to the arrest were not released.

    Gbain, who currently works for the NYPD, was taken into custody by officers from the 69th Precinct, which covers the Brooklyn borough of Canarsie.

    The NYPD has not yet released any further information regarding the circumstances of the case or Gbain's current employment status with the department.

    NEW YORK — An off-duty New York Fire Department paramedic was arrested late Monday night in Washington Heights, police said. The arrest occurred at 10:58 p.m. at the 33rd Precinct.

    The suspect, 25-year-old Damiya Coram, faces several charges, including second-degree assault, child abuse and fourth-degree illegal possession of a weapon.

    Authorities have not released specific details about the incident that led to Coram's arrest. The 33rd Precinct, where the arrest took place, covers the Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan.
