Lebanese security source: Hundreds of people injured by exploding pagers in attack on Hezbollah members

CNN

Hundreds of people were injured in an attack on Hezbollah members' pagers on Tuesday, a Lebanese security source told CNN.

According to the semi-official Iranian media outlet Mehr News, the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among the injured in Beirut.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health urged citizens who have pagers to put them down and warned hospitals to be on “high alert.”

According to Reuters, the explosions occurred in Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Beirut. NNA reported that “hacked” pagers exploded in the towns of Ali Al-Nahri and Riyaq in Lebanon's central Bekaa Valley, injuring many people. All three towns are Hezbollah strongholds.

The Israeli military, which has been embroiled in clashes with Hezbollah since the Gaza war began last October, said it would not comment on the incident.

Lebanon's Health Ministry said health workers across Lebanon were urgently called to work as “a large number of injured people were admitted to hospitals” following the pager explosions. Officials also urged people to donate blood as the need would continue to grow.
