SOPHIE is honored with a Google Doodle on her birthday

Hyperpop pioneer SOPHIE was honored with a Google Doodle on her 38th birthday (September 17).

The Google Doodle is accompanied by a short clip with the soundtrack of “Immaterial”. Oil from the inside of each pearlher only studio album released in 2019 is inspired by her most iconic look and an Elektron Monomachine used for her inimitable vocal style. Watch the clip below.

SOPHIE – real name Sophie Xeon – died in January 2021 after falling from a three-story building in Athens, Greece. She was 34.

In the caption of the video, Google wrote: “This video Doodle celebrates the birthday of Scottish musician, producer and DJ Sophie Xeon, known for her acclaimed experimental pop and electronic music.” Previous recipients of a Doodle on the search engine include Luther Vandross, Tito Puente and others.

Next week (September 27) a posthumous album SOPHIE is set to be released on Transgressive and Future Classic. Work on the record was almost complete before her death and was completed by close collaborators such as Benny Long, who mastered, mixed and produced previous SOPHIE releases.

So far, four singles have been released from the album, most recently “Exhilarate” with Bibi Bourelly and “Reason Why” with Kim Petras BC Kingdom.

Following her death, tributes were paid to her by the entire music world, including Rihanna, Vince Staples, Sam Smith and others. Earlier this year, Charli xcxs died brat includes the song “So I,” which was written in response to the grief Charli felt after her death. The pair worked closely together on some of Charli’s previous songs, including Buzz, buzz EPs and Mixtapes 2017 Pop1 And Pop2.

In addition, SOPHIE has worked as a producer for works such as Madonna, Shygirl and MØ throughout her career.
