Live Updates: Hezbollah members' pagers targeted in bomb attack in Lebanon, Lebanese security source says

The pager explosions came after Israel's security cabinet voted on Monday to add another war aim to the ongoing conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah: ensuring the safe return of residents of communities along the border with Lebanon to their homes.

After nearly a year of cross-border clashes between Hezbollah and Israel, tens of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.

While the return of the residents of northern Israel has long been considered a political necessity for Netanyahu's government, this is the first time it has been declared an official war aim.

Before Monday's vote, Netanyahu had said that repatriating residents to the north would not be possible without a “fundamental change in the security situation” along the border, his office said.

He added that Israel would “do whatever is necessary” to return residents to their homes.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was more explicit, saying the only way to allow residents to return to their homes was “military action.”

The Israeli military has not yet commented on Tuesday's explosions.
