Halle Berry on getting older, her love life and her new psychological thriller: “I love the adrenaline rush”

Actress Halle Berry talks about her love life, advocating for women's health and her new psychological thriller “Never Let Go,” in which her character believes the world has been taken over by a mysterious evil spirit.

“I love the adrenaline rush. I love being scared,” Berry said in an interview with “CBS Mornings.” “I love not knowing what's going to happen, especially when it's a psychological horror film like this.”

She described the film as layered, explaining that both love and dysfunction exist in relationships. In the film, Berry said, her character's young son begins to question whether his mother is okay.

“What I love about this mom is that she's a different version of a mom. She's a darker version of herself, but she's a mom who's dealing with her own trauma that's been passed down to her. That's what a lot of moms do, a lot of women do: They do the best they can.”

Berry joked that the thriller was not only scary for moviegoers.

“We had a real live set, a house in the middle of nowhere, and there were bears running around. During the day, this forest was the most beautiful, magical place, but once the sun went down and the bears came out, it got really scary,” she said.

Berry has starred in films such as Die Another Day, Catwoman, the X-Men series, and Monster's Ball, for which she won an Oscar.

Even off the screen, Berry's mission is to inform and educate others about women's health.

“I found out I was going through menopause in a horrible way. Instead of menopausal symptoms, I was diagnosed with herpes,” she said.

She stressed that menopause and other women's health problems can only be destigmatized by talking about them.

“Aging is a privilege,” she said. “As we get older, we have to stop believing that we have to stay 30 forever. We become monsters when we try to stay 30 forever. We have to realize that we are more than the shell we walk around in.”

The Oscar winner said she felt like she was in the right place not only professionally but also personally as she was dating musician Van Hunt.

“Before Van came into my life, I was alone for four years, completely alone, voluntarily… And I worked on myself. I really had to take time for that.”
