17-year-old Pembroke girl dies from injuries sustained in weekend crash in Duxbury, police say

A 17-year-old girl has died from injuries sustained in a car crash over the weekend, according to Duxbury police. Duxbury police and firefighters were called to Harrison Street around 12:20 a.m. Saturday after a car struck a tree. At the scene, they found the driver and the only passenger, a 17-year-old Pembroke girl, trapped in the vehicle. The girl was unresponsive and had to be extricated from the vehicle using rescue shears. The teen was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital.On Monday evening, the chief medical examiner pronounced the teen dead. The Pembroke Hobomock PTO said the victim was Maddie Straub, a 12th grader at Silver Lake High School.Duxbury police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the victim's friends and family,” said Duxbury Police Chief Michael Carbone. According to Pembroke Youth Baseball and Softball, there will be a vigil for Straub at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mattakeesett Fields next to the Snack Shack.

The girl was unresponsive and had to be freed from the vehicle using rescue shears. The teenager was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital.

On Monday evening, the chief medical examiner announced that the teenager had died.

According to the Pembroke Hobomock PTO, the victim was Maddie Straub, a senior at Silver Lake High School.

Duxbury Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the accident.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s friends and family,” said Duxbury Police Chief Michael Carbone.
