Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui are available for Manchester United's Carabao Cup match against Barnsley

Manchester United defenders Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui are available for Tuesday's Carabao Cup match against Barnsley.

The pair were substituted due to injuries during the second half of Southampton's 3-0 Premier League win on Saturday.

Matthijs de Ligt, who scored the first goal in this match, was also taken out of the squad, but confirmed afterwards that he had only been suffering from cramps.

“They are all available, they are good,” manager Erik ten Hag said on Monday about Martinez and Mazraoui.

The positional flexibility of Manchester United’s full-backs is a welcome sign of tactical development

Regarding the injured trio of Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Victor Lindelof, Ten Hag added: “They are not ready for tomorrow. We will see what happens (at the weekend).”

“Luke Shaw is making progress but is not ready to be selected yet. Ugarte, we will see tomorrow.”

“He (Shaw) is making good progress. Of course we have a plan in mind as to when he might be ready, but you always depend on how the progress goes. You can't think or make a suggestion because there are so many factors that can speed up or slow down a plan.”

Asked if he could take momentum from the Southampton game after two consecutive defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool, Ten Hag replied: “Absolutely, very important. I hope I have a headache because last year I had a headache too but there were no players available.”

“I hope I have a lot of players available, so I'll make my selections game by game. It's not just about the starting eleven. It's a nice head-scratcher.”

After Tuesday's cup home game against League One side Barnsley, United travel to Selhurst Park on Saturday to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
