Man sentenced to probation after fatal accident on Washington Avenue in 2020

The driver admitted to driving down Washington Avenue at a high rate of speed and running a red light before colliding with a pickup truck that had four people in the bed and three more in the cab.

ST. LOUIS – The man responsible for a car crash that killed a 17-year-old girl in 2020 has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty earlier this year.

According to a press release from the St. Louis District Attorney's Office, 29-year-old La'Javion D. Ramsey was sentenced to probation in connection with the death of 17-year-old Sierra Ward-Micke.

The accident occurred on August 17 shortly before 2:30 a.m. at Washington Avenue and North 10th Street.

According to police, Ramsey was driving a Dodge Charger 20 miles per hour over the speed limit on Washington Avenue when he ran a red light and struck the rear passenger side of a pickup truck. Four people were in the bed of the pickup truck and three people were in the driver's cab. The impact ejected all four people in the bed of the truck from the vehicle.

Ward-Micke, who was in the back of the truck, was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. Several other people in the truck were injured.

Ramsey pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the accident last July.

On Tuesday, he was sentenced to 60 days in jail, which he had already served. In addition to the time already served, Ramsey was sentenced to 10 years' probation, which he must serve if he violates the terms of his probation.
