19-year-old Juventus player Yildiz breaks Del Piero's record with his first goal in the revamped Champions League

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Juventus player Kenan Yildiz, 19, scored the first goal of the revamped Champions League on Tuesday. And what a goal it was.

Yildiz dribbled into the left side of the box and fired a long shot into the top corner of the goal frame, becoming Juventus' youngest ever goalscorer in his first game in Europe's premier club competition.

At 19 years and 136 days old, Yildiz broke the club record set by Alessandro Del Piero when he scored against Borussia Dortmund in September 1995 at the age of 20 years and 308 days.

With a goal reminiscent of the way Del Piero used to score goals, it seemed fitting that the Turkish winger wore the same number 10 that Del Piero wore at Juventus.

Yildiz's goal came in the 21st minute of Juve's match against PSV Eindhoven.

Aston Villa hosted Young Boys in the other early game of the new league phase, which will see all 36 teams from top to bottom compete in a single ranking that ends in January.
