“Good evening Taha, interesting to see how Real survives a long season without Mr. Metronomic Toni Kroos.,“ writes John McEnerney.

“Modric is not enough and the young midfielders they have do not have the discipline or the ability to sit deep and dictate the game. Frankly, there are not many who can do that. Real will let you score, but the firepower might just be enough. Enjoy the games.”

I wonder what our man Toni is up to. My Friday fivesome in South London isn't full this week. If you're in the area, Toni, drop me a line.

preamble

Real Madrid against Stuttgart. Bayern Munich against Dinamo Zagreb. Manchester United against, er, Barnsley. Yes, it's time for the Champions League Carabao Watch, a strange hodgepodge but a pleasant service that I'm happy to provide. I'll keep you updated on the goals, the reds, possible attacks and anything else that catches your eye.

We are already on the move in Europe – there are a lot this year – Juventus host PSV and Aston Villa play the oddly named Young Boys. Feel free to contact me with your thoughts and questions and please let me know if you have ever had the Carabao Energy Drink. Book recommendations are always welcome.
