Delaware man allegedly attempted to steal video game consoles from three stores within a few hours

A Delaware man was arrested after authorities said he attempted to steal a video game console from three different stores and was twice fought off by employees.

Investigators say 27-year-old Christopher Trexler attacked a Best Buy cashier as she checked out a video game console and an Apple device at the store on Concord Pike.

Trexler allegedly pushed the cashier against a shelf and grabbed the merchandise as he attempted to flee the store while other Best Buy employees pursued him.

Investigators say Trexler fled the store after a brief scuffle with employees. He said he was armed with a knife.

An hour later, Trexler allegedly went to a GameStop and inquired about video game consoles before handing the cashier a threatening note.

According to police, he went behind the counter and grabbed a pair of scissors, but was stopped by an employee who was able to throw the scissors away during a scuffle.

The employee, who police said suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment, chased Trexler out of the store.

It is believed that a short time later, Trexler went to another Best Buy on Fashion Center Boulevard, grabbed a video game console and ran out of the store.

Police were called to Best Buy for a shoplifting incident, later found Trexler at another nearby store and took him into custody.

It later emerged that Trexler had several arrest warrants in September for thefts that had occurred a few days earlier.

He was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree robbery, shoplifting and criminal damage.
