Kane scores four goals and breaks record in Bayern win

Harry Kane of FC Bayern Munich scored four goals in the victory over Dinamo Zagreb, becoming England's all-time leading goalscorer in the history of the Champions League and European Cup.

Kane's fourth goal – his third penalty of the game – was his 33rd Champions League goal, surpassing Wayne Rooney's old record of 30.

The quadruple goal also marked his 50th, 51st, 52nd and 53rd Bayern goals in just 50 games for the club.

Another London-born player, French winger Michael Olise, scored two goals on his Champions League debut.

Bayern Munich is the first team to score nine goals in a Champions League match.

Kane gave Bayern the lead with a penalty after Aleksandar Pavlovic was fouled and sent goalkeeper Ivan Nevistic into the wrong corner.

Raphael Guerreiro scored a fantastic half-volley before Olise, Crystal Palace's summer signing, headed in a cross from Joshua Kimmich.

At half-time, Bayern brought on Sven Ulrich for the injured Manuel Neuer and he conceded two goals in five minutes before he touched the ball. Bruno Petkovic and Takuya Ogiwara beat him to make it 3-2.

But Bayern regained control: Kane converted a rebound after Kimmich's shot was blocked and Olise shot into the empty net.

Then the Englishman Kane converted his second penalty after the video assistant referee made a questionable decision regarding handball.

And he scored a hat-trick of penalties and his fourth goal overall after Alphonso Davies was fouled.

Substitute Leroy Sane sank the ball from 18 meters and Leon Goretzka headed the ninth goal.

The goals by Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Kane were also disallowed for offside.

This is the second highest goal difference in a Champions League match of all time, equal with Monaco's 8-3 victory over Deportivo La Coruna in 2003. The record remains Borussia Dortmund's 8-4 victory over Legia Warsaw in 2016.

Thomas Müller played his 152nd Champions League game for Bayern, overtaking Barcelona legend Xavi as the player with the most appearances for a single club in the tournament.

Kane has scored nine goals in five games for Vincent Kompany's Bayern this season and also scored a hat-trick in Saturday's 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel.
