The “Bachelorette” winner Devin Strader was threatened with arrest and a restraining order in the past

The latest “Bachelorette” winner, Devin Strader, was arrested seven years before the final season of the show, in which he won and briefly became engaged to star Jenn Tran.

RealitySteve, who reports for Bachelor Nation News, released an affidavit purporting to be from Strader's arrest warrant on one count of “simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.” In the legal documents, which an unnamed ex-girlfriend filed on March 19, 2017 and attached to the released warrant, she claimed that while she was out of town, her home was broken into and a diamond necklace he had given her was stolen. diversity has examined the affidavit separately.

She also claimed that Strader had previously come to her house several times, banging on the door and yelling at her. According to the affidavit, she filed for a restraining order on March 22, 2017.[Strader] She started a fire in the street with what appeared to be the actual restraining order. She also had a flat tire in her car and when it was changed, [Strader] came out and started laughing at her,” the affidavit states.

Strader did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

While the affidavit about the break-in was publicly available, the restraining order and all of its details were kept under wraps. Entertainment Weekly has since published the order, in which the ex-girlfriend claims that Strader “spit on me and threw his drink on me in front of everyone in the crowd at the Pelicans game” and “put a chokehold on me and covered my mouth.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, after his arrest, Strader pleaded guilty to burglary, trespassing and simple damage to property less than $500 and received a one-year unsupervised probation sentence.

ABC and Warner Bros., the production company behind the series, declined to comment on the show's selection process. However, a source close to the production says: diversity“We take the safety of our participants very seriously and make every effort to screen them carefully. As extensive as our screening process is, this protective order did not come up in our research.”

The background check process in reality TV has become an increasingly questionable topic over the years; Lincoln Adim, one of the contestants on Becca Kufrin's 2018 season of The Bachelorette, was arrested two years earlier for indecent assault and battery. At the time, Warner Bros. claimed that production was unaware of any incident or charges.

Tran proposed to Strader on the finale of The Bachelorette, which aired Sept. 3, only to reveal on the aftershow that he broke up with her shortly afterward and told her his feelings had changed. He later attempted to defend himself in a 13-minute Instagram video, revealing private messages between him and Tran that have since been deleted.

Tran will make her debut on Tuesday night at the premiere of “Dancing With the Stars.”
