Anna Delvey's lawyer responds to criticism of The View DWTS

The hosts of The view make some corrections following their comments about Anna Delvey's participation in the upcoming season of ABC's Dancing with the stars.

During their Sept. 5 broadcast, the hosts of the talk show, which also airs on ABC, expressed disappointment that the reality dance competition chose to add Delvey (whose real name is Anna Sorokin) to the new cast, even though she faces criminal charges and has apparently not confessed to her crimes.

Delvey is a convicted fraudster and fake German heiress who allegedly tricked various Manhattan elites into giving her hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, goods and services. Her story was dramatized for Netflix. The invention of Annain which Julia Garner played the role of Delvey and Shonda Rhimes served as showrunner.

Delvey was released from prison in 2021 after serving a four-year sentence, but has been under house arrest since then while she fights her deportation case. Delvey admitted that she had received permission from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to attend the DWTSShe will continue to wear her ankle bracelet during the competition.

“I think back to all the families whose family members were arrested by ICE, who went to court to get their father, their brother, their mother back, and this woman got her permission to do that,” Goldberg said. “Now, should I think there's a reason? Is there a two-tier system here at ICE?”

“I like it when someone stands up, but when do people’s actions have consequences?” asked Sunny Hostin.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin also noted that while she was in favor of a redemption story, Delvey apparently did not admit everything: “She still owes people money. Scammers tend to be scammers.”

Responding to her comments on social media, Delvey advised the hosts to “get their facts straight.”

“While you are entitled to your own opinion, you should at least get your facts straight. I have served my sentence and paid everyone back in full over 3 years ago. I look forward to your correction on the show,” Delvey wrote in a response to The view's X-Page (formerly Twitter).

In the Monday broadcast of The view, The moderators apparently did just that, after sharing that they were contacted by Delvey's attorney following their live discussion.

In one short segment, Griffin read a statement directly into the camera.

“We recently talked about Anna Delvey, the convicted fraudster, and found that she Dancing with the stars and questioned the fairness of her appearing on the show, since it's an opportunity that most other convicted criminals and immigrants seeking asylum simply don't get. After that discussion, we heard from Ms. Delvey's attorney, who strongly disagreed with our statement, quote, “She still owes people money.” He argued that statement falsely suggests that she still owes compensation to her fraud victims. And he presented a document from the Office of Victim Services that he says proves, quote, “All of Ms. Delvey's compensation has been fully repaid and all victims have been fully compensated,” end quote.”

Griffin then said: “We are all looking forward to the new season of Dancing with the stars Premiering tomorrow night here on ABC.”

In response to the segment, Delvey’s attorney Duncan Levin said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “We are grateful that The view has corrected her false and defamatory statements about Ms. Delvey. Like so many others, Anna has made mistakes and, most importantly, she has made amends by both serving her prison sentence and fully repaying all of her debts. Anna deserves a second chance and accepts The view's apology.”
